Training programme on “Jackfruit Processing and Value Addition”.

A three days training programme on “Jackfruit processing and value addition” was successfully organized at Division of Horticulture, ICAR Research complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya during 28 to 30th January, 2019 sponsored under Farmers’ FIRST Programme. There was a participation of 20 female farmers in total from 4 villages viz., Umtham, Sarikushi, Mawphraw and Lalumpam villages under Marngar Division of Ri Bhoi District, Meghalaya. Though jackfruit is available in plenty in this region, its utilization and consumption is not yet explored to its full potential therefore, the objective of this training was aimed to address the need of processing jackfruit by imparting hands-on training on processing and value addition. Theory lectures followed by practical sessions were conducted on the various topics discussed under the subject matter; inputs (food additives) were also distributed on the last day of training. The training was coordinated by Drs. SR Assumi, AK Jha, H Rymbai, MB Devi, PK Sinha and R Laha.
